Timber Treatments

Woodworm

Woodworm is the term given to the larval stage of wood-boring beetles, most commonly the Death Watch Beetle in hardwoods and the Common Furniture Beetle in softwoods. The female beetle lays eggs in cracks in the timber surface. The larvae hatch and then spend the next three to five years consuming the timber. It is a common issue that can eventually result in timbers needing to be replaced as a result of an infestation. This is one of the most frequent causes of timber damage which can have a long-lasting effect on a building if left untreated.

Once woodworm has been identified in a property it is imperative to get it treated. As soon as the timbers have been treated the active ingredients work in the following ways:

  • If a female lays eggs on the surface of a timber, The larvae will hatch and ingest the treatment and die.

  • Beetles already in the wood will ingest the treatment when they emerge at the end of their lifecycle, Killing them before they have the chance to mate and lay more eggs.

  • Treated rooms can be reoccupied just one hour after treatment has dried, Minimising disruption to you.

At Timsbury Preservation Services Ltd we are meticulous when is comes to doing the job right.

  • Our technicians will prepare the area by brushing down all accessible timbers and defrass where necessary, Remove all debris from between joists and clean with an industrial strength vacuum cleaner.
