Cavity Drain Membrane Systems Advanced Basement Waterproofing

A Cavity Drain Membrane (CDM) System is designed to manage and control water ingress rather than simply blocking it. The system allows water entering through walls or floors to be safely directed to a controlled drainage point — whether that’s a soakaway, perimeter drainage channel connected to an existing outlet, or a sump and pump system that evacuates water to an external drainage point.

This makes it an ideal solution for basements, cellars, and below-ground structures where effective water management is essential.

Choosing the Right Membrane

Different membranes are used depending on your project requirements:

  • Mesh-faced membranes – Suitable for direct plastering or dot-and-dab plasterboard systems.

  • Clear membranes – Designed for flooring applications or where a dry-lining wall finish is planned.

Our surveyor will carefully assess your property and design the correct Cavity Drain Membrane System to suit your specific needs.

Our Professional Installation Process

At Timsbury Preservation Services, attention to detail is key to delivering long-lasting waterproofing solutions.

1. Preparation

Existing plaster is removed from the walls to expose the masonry. Where required, a drainage channel is excavated at the base of the wall.

2. Membrane Installation

The wall membrane is fixed from the floor channel up to ceiling height using specialist Quickseal membrane plugs. All joints are carefully sealed using bituminous rope and/or waterproof tapes to ensure a fully sealed system.

3. Drainage & Pump Installation (If Required)

Where active water management is necessary, we install a high-quality sump and pump system. We use the trusted PermaSEAL basement sump and pump system, complete with a perimeter drainage channel.

A cavity drain membrane is also installed across the floor surface and linked seamlessly to the wall membrane, creating a fully integrated waterproofing system.

When professionally designed and installed, a cavity drain membrane system provides reliable, long-term protection — giving you a dry, usable space with complete peace of mind.
